Red Cliff

When I hear Red Cliff, I see Takeshi Kaneshiro! As some of you know from my previous post, I'm a huge fan of Takeshi Kaneshiro. He is hawt! I'd like to thank Nuffnang (again) for giving me the opportunity to watch Red Cliff. I heart press screenings~~~

Initially, I felt very dissatisfied about this movie right after watching it. But after some time (a very long time indeed seeing that I'm only blogging it now) of digesting, the movie is actually quite impressive. Real historical battle of The Red Cliff between Liu Bei, Sun Quan and Cao Cao during the Three Kingdoms period in China.

The reason why I felt dissatisfied was because the movie was a little draggy in some parts, especially the battle scenes. The battle scenes itself is very impressive. Tactical strategies and military ingenuity are just mind blowing. But bringing out the generals one by one to combat the enemy soldiers are just silly... Just to display the might and strength of the generals. That's just pushing it...

But the character developments and the actors themselves were good. Takeshi delivered top notch performance as expected and Tony Leung was pretty good too. Storyline was engaging and martial art stunts were superb.

I am amazed with the sheer quantity of actors that was needed in this movie. With so many actors, they needed a lot of costumes to go with it. Logistics nightmare!

I've always love movies like these. The era of ancient China. It's fantastic to have a glimpse of the time (albeit a little exaggerated). This movie is definitely worth the watch and I think there hasn't been a movie which is quite like this or in the scale like this.

Hellboy II

The adventures of Red and Blue continues with Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Again, the world as we know it is faced with an unstoppable army made from the ancient time during a war between humans and mythical creatures.

So who you gonna call?

Hellboy of course. Spawn of Satan, the bringer of doom and raised by a human Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, is called once more to save human race from the brink of destruction. Pretty heavy job for a person that's not like by either humans nor the other mythical creatures but someone has gotta do it.

The movie starts of good with the recount of the ancient war between humans and mythical creatures through comic style drawings. Fast forward, the film is filled with awesome action sequence, cleverly scripted and hilarious scripts (as expected from Hellboy) and funny character developments. Can you imagine Red and Blue drunk and singing to Can't Smile Without You.

Hellboy and "The Big Baby".

As good as the movie was, I have one qualm about the movie. There are some parts that seemed a little draggy. Especially the ending I reckon but I shan't spoil the ending for those who haven't watched it.

Never the less, go watch Hellboy II. It's a good watch and you might just fall off your seat laughing your head off.

Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3D!

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a media pass for press screening of Journey To The Center Of The Earth in 3D (thanks Nuffnang~~~) at GSC in Mid Valley. It's wonderful to go as media. Sure I was whining and whining when I woke up at six in the morning today (luckily I did cause I set the alarm to the wrong day and I might just missed this event).

The movie was superb! How I've missed watching movies so crisp, clear and vibrant quality and best of all, no annoying subtitles that takes a quarter of the screen. The entire experience of watching the movie was amazing. It really did feel like I was there in the action. Imagine the graphic felt so real that I really thought water was really going to splash onto my face.

I heart complimentary stuff!

Everything about this movie was scenic. Breath taking sceneries and add in the 3D effect, very realistic. I've not read the book so I can't really make a comparison of the storyline. I can say that it's straight forward. Nothing fantastic to be honest.

Cute florescence birds.

Imagine this scene 1000x prettier on screen.

After the movie screening, we were brought to a behind the scene tour where the projectors are. It was a first for me and was rather curious how they did it. I was expecting the projectors to be in individual rooms but instead it was projectors in a long corridor and films running along the walls. I never knew how big the projectors were and how much heat it produces!

35mm film projector.

Check out the film reel. It's huge!

Huge ass (about 1.7m in diameter) film reel.

I urge everyone to go for the 3D version of this movie. It's a tad more expensive, RM 17 but it's worth the price and experience the movie in a different way. The graphics are just that amazing. It's only available in KLCC, Mid Valley and Sunway.

Go watch. Seriously.

Hancock

To be honest, I thought I was going to have another bitching session with this movie after Wanted. With bad reviews from La Faghag and other not so good review for it. None the less, I always keep a zero expectation policy so that I can enjoy the movie and have a rather unbiased judgement.

Hancock!

So why the almost bitching session for this movie?

The movie started off looking very cheesy and cartoon-ish with all that childish flinging of the car actions. But that soon turned out to be part of Hancock's character development. Will Smith acted the part of Hancock pretty well. There's a distinct difference from being the childish and attention seeking Hancock to a mature and heroic Hancock.

Free tickets!

One thing for sure, this isn't your typical superhero movie. Hancock gets indicted for public property damages through his reckless heroic behaviours. Sure he rescued people but he just couldn't give a rat's ass to do it with minimal damage. Massive destruction to public properties and heedless theatrical stunts.

Then came along Ray Embrey and things changed for the better. Hancock became the hero that the city of Los Angeles needed. Yep, heart warming fuzzy wazzy.

Overall it was an enjoyable movie. Light and easy watch with funny humours here and there. Not the best movie of the year but just a nice chill out movie to have a relaxing time.

Most "Wanted"

Wanted? Certainly not for this movie. Sure I like Angelina Jolie anytime in any movie but that just won't do for this movie. Even the lovely Angelina Jolie couldn't be this movie's saving grace. The movie was in such dire condition and throughout the entire movie I was gasping, "You have got to be kidding me?!".

Wanted? Not really...

The movie started off alright introducing Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy), a below than your average Joe, working class guy. Actually make that a uber pathetic dude. Think about the whole team from Dodgeball combined and you get him. He couldn't even Google himself. I actually feel sorry for him but he's got this really stunning blue eyes and oh so yummy bod.

Perfect combination of girls, guns and cars.

However, the movie practically went downhill when Angelina Jolie came into the picture. She's stunning sure but the stunts this movie pulled were unbelievable in a really bad way. I think Mythbusters need to debunk this soon to be urban legend, a shooter can curve a bullet firing out of his gun by swinging his arm. If that's not illogical enough, imaging intercepting a bullet in mid air with another bullet... I didn't mind the other vehicular stunts they pulled but this bullet thing, I can't down it like a shot of good old strong tequila.

Ain't she a beauty.

Having said that, the general plot is decent with enough twists and suspenses to entice and enthral the audience. Visual effects were stunning and it was no surprise seeing that director is none other than Timur Bekmambetov. He is known for Night Watch and Day Watch.

So the verdict is I disliked the movie. The bullet things were just too whacked for me to accept it. It ruined the movie for me. But there's no harm going for a watch anyways. Movie outings with friends are always lovely.

Juno

Here is a movie that is worth raving about. Absolutely hilarious, intelligent and witty. I would have never thought that a movie about a teenage girl, Juno getting knocked up would be such a feel good movie. But if you think the movie is about Juno getting fucked, pregnant and gives birth, you've underestimated the movie.

Juno.

Here's the trailer.

The movie started of slow but as it progresses, it got better. The dialogs are amazingly smart, funny and natural. I really love the dialogs and here's some that really stucked in my mind.
I think I'd just nip it in the bud before it gets worse. Cause they were talking about it in health class how pregnancy, it can often lead to an infant.

Hi, I'm just calling for a hasty abortion.

Honey, doctors are sadist who likes to play God and watch lesser people scream.

Hey you know, you can go to early labor sucking face like that.
The most rememberable line is from her father.
Find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty. Handsome, what have you. The right person still gonna think the sunshine out of your ass. That's the kind of person that's worth sticking with them.
The casts were superb. Ellen Page is so the girl for Juno. She fits perfectly and acted so well. Totally worth all the nominations and awards that she got for this movie.

I love the parents. They're so different yet not unrealistic. You'd think they would force Juno to do something drastic like marriage or abortion when they found out about the baby. But they supported her decision to give the baby for adoption. They're really funny too.

This is a definite must watch movie. Everything about the movie is brilliant. The plot, the actors, the way it was shot are wonderful. The OST is great too.

Martian Child

Another movie review and this time its Martian Child. I hate that it takes forever for movies arrive in Malaysian shores. This movie was out since December and only now its screening. Bleh. Annoying.

The plot is David (John Cusack), recently lost his wife was considering to adopt a kid, Dennis who thinks he's from Mars. Dennis stays in his Amazon.com box, afraid of the sun and has a belt of flashlight batteries as weights to prevent him from floating off. Basically a weird kid. So the movie is about the journey of becoming a father and son.

Martian Child.

The movie itself didn't do much emotionally. It was suppose to be a sweet, soppy and touching movie but it didn't feel like it. The movie did have its moments here and there but it didn't go all the way. The movie felt lazy if that makes any sense. Its like every scene, the director got lazy halfway through and left a stagnant atmosphere of emotion.

It left me sort of emotionally confused and I couldn't pinpoint any highlights about the movie even if I tried hard to do so. Nothing to rave really.

So I say, meh if not disappointed to this movie.

To Wong Foo

We used to play this game introduced by La Faghag back in the freshman days. She'll name several actors and we'll have to guess the movie (or is it the other way round?). It was fun but it was such a brainer and knowing me and my ability to remember names, I sucked in the game.

See if you guys can draw the connection between these three actors, circa 1995: Wesley Snipes (Blade), Patrick Swayze (One Last Dance) and John Leguizamo (Ice Age).

Hint.

Its a comedy about three drag queens.

The answer is:

To Wong Foo Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar.

Oh work it girl!

Ancient movie I know but I just only gotten around to watching it. Shockingly, it is being shared in my campus network. I am so totally in love with this movie! The three of them did such fabulous job acting as drag queens! Very convincing act.

I am most impressed with Wesley Snipes, the man from Blade. A manly, macho and beefy guy in dresses and man did he work those dresses. He's got the black girl attitude to go with it too. Her name, Noxeema Jackson. Everything about her spells D.I.V.A. I love that girl.

Noxeema: When a straight man puts on a dress and goes on a sexual kick he is a transvestite. When a man is a woman trapped in a man's body and has a little operation he is a Transsexual. When a gay man has way too much fashion sense for one gender he is a drag queen. And when a tired little Latin boy puts on a dress, he is simply a boy in a dress!

Oh work it girl work it.

Then you have the upper class classic chic girl Patrick Swayze, Vida Boheme. See her and you'll think of Bree Van de Kamp. She's the prim and proper type of girl and she's sort of a senior of the three of them.

And the last of the three, Chi Chi Rodriguez the little pinata. She talks a lot and I mean a lot. She goes on and on and on yapping away like those Spanish dramas but she's hilarious!

Chi Chi: I got a million dream lovers for every light on Broadway. When one of them goes out I just screw in another one, you know, hello good-bye.

The basic plot is about the adventures of these three girls in a small town called Syndersville after their car broke down halfway driving to Hollywood.

I've watched it three times already. I love it. You should so totally watch it if you haven't.

Do You Jump?

Apparently Hayden Christensen does and mighty handsome while he's at it too. I never really paid much attention to him when he was in Star Wars but he's actually quite a looker. I like. And his got a nice body to boot too. Not too bulky but just nice.

My roomie and I had a queer's night out and decided to catch Jumper. Its sad that there's very limited choices of movies being screened. So Jumper had to do and I was rather keen on watching it anyways.

That's a nice tagline.

Watch it we did. Like it we did not.

The movie started off well but as a whole, it was a total bummer. It's by the same director of The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith (both brilliant movies) but the story was lacking a clear and defined plot and substance. It left us wondering.

What are Jumpers?

How did Jumpers came to be?

What are the Paladins?

Every explanation was too brief and I didn't feel connected with the characters or the plot.

There's one possibly positive note about this movie (besides Hayden's lovely body) is that it's very scenic. Jumpers jump anywhere they want as long as they have a visualization of it. So lots of scenic places like Rome to London to some dessert somewhere.

For me the movie was "meh". Nothing to rave about really.

Wall E

Just got around to watching Wall E trailer. I know, it was so last year but what can I say... I love Pixar! They're a genius when it comes to animation and this is their last production with Disney. I am thoroughly excited!

From what I gather its about a robot, the last of its kind left on Earth to clean up the pollution. Its a super adorable robot and apparently, there's no dialog in this movie. Imagine that. They managed to pull it off with the trailer. I wonder if its true.

Here are the two trailers.

And here's a cute little promo of Wall E.

Oh I so can't wait to watch it!

The Eye

I love watching movies. Movie outings are awesome with the a group of friends. Well karaokes too. Anyhow, I watched The Eye recently and despite the horrible movie reviews, I love it!

I've not watched the original so I can't make a comparison. The plot is straightforward. Blind girl had eye transplant to restore her vision and that's when all hell breaks lose. She started seeing weird and scary things.

I think Jessica Alba was pretty good in the movie. Convincing act as a blind girl and as a semi lunatic girl going around hunting for who the donor was. I love her a lot ever since Dark Angel. Not to mention she's stunning too.

The movie as a whole is bloody scary! I think I nearly broke Alex's arm on several occasions throughout the movie. Thanks for the arm Alex. I'm such a coward I know but what can I say.

Go watch it for a good scare. Well, it was for me.

How About A Shave?

Sweeney Todd is definitely not for those with hematophobia nor is it for those who tsk everytime the casts sing (I don't understand why they even bother to watch a MUSICAL). I throughly enjoyed watching Sweeney Todd. Enjoyed every bloody bit of it.

The acting and singing skills were flawless. Every emotions were cleverly portrayed especially by Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett. Through the thick, pale, black and white, gothic makeup, every expressions and emotions could be clearly seen. Top notch act.

Not forgetting the chemistry between the two. They make a very adorable, if not a very odd couple. Their vocals compliment so well with each other when they sing. And the scores were sprucely composed that made the chemistry of the two even more convincing.

I absolutely adore the costumes and the sets in this musical. Really beautiful works of arts. The dress that Mrs. Lovett wore look more like couture than a plebeian dress of the day. There was one thing that bugged me throughout the movie but I never paid attention to it. It was Mrs. Lovett boobs. They varied in sizes in the movie and that time I thought it was just the costume. Apparently it wasn't the costume, it was because she was pregnant. Hehheh. Now that's funny.

I love love love the dark and morose storyline. La faghag and I were happy and chirpy while others seemed disturbed by the movie. My fagstag even said he's avoiding big pau for a month. Hheehhe. La faghag and I would really love to watch it again but uncensored. Stupid censorship board kept censoring the gory scene while they were SINGING!

I love everything about this movie. Unquestionably a must watch and movie of the year for me.

Double Take

Had my first back to back movie screening for the year in GSC Pavilion with McDave today. We couldn't decide what to watch since we were torn between In The Name of The King and American Gangster. So why not watch both yea?

Our first movie was at noon for In The Name of The King. It was screened in a huge hall but there were only five people watching. Hahhaha. Imagine that. A huge hall all to ourselves. It was fucking cold that I swear I was about to experience hypothermia.

The movie however sucked and that's being polite about it. Why the movie sucked. The costumes for the Krugs looked like the costume wore by those monsters in Ultraman. Very fake and synthetic. It wasn't natural enough to look like flesh or move like flesh. Very al-cheep-o costumes.

I think they were putting their money on the battle scenes to make the movie worth watching since the storyline felt like its trying to be Lord of The Rings but didn't quite make it. It felt like there were too many things that it made the movie felt as though it was very rushed. Trying to cramp everything.

The battle scenes too were bla... Again trying to be as epic as LOTR but fell short. There were these weird ninjas warriors. So totally didn't fit in the Medieval look. Then there were these woman jungle warriors like the Woman Amazon Warriors. Somehow, something of them reminded me of Cave of The Golden Rose. Too many unnecessary things that didn't have to be there.

Basically I didn't like the movie at all. Freezing my butt for this is so not worth it.

American Gangster on the other hand was an awesome movie. Totally gave me the feel of how it was back in the 1970s. Drugs, money, gangsters, police and corruption of the 70s. Danzel Washington and Russell Crowe acted brilliantly in the movie though I think Danzel was really in tune with his character the most.

Based on a true story of how Frank Lucas became the drug lord and monopolising the heroin market in Manhattan. This man changed the economics of drug trafficking by dealing straight to the source, South East Asia. Buy cheap and high purity heroin + sell expensive low purity heroin = $$$.

Its a fantastic movie and a must watch. Read the comments and reviews in IMDB. The comments and reviews does more justice to the movie than me writing about it.

Ratatouille

Stupid campus is at it again. Freaking annoying. For a few days now the WIFI connection has been malfunctioning and yesterday, LAN internet connection... Arrrrgh. I nearly died of boredom if it wasn't for file sharing in the local network.

So I downloaded Ratatouille.

Once again, Pixar did it again. Another fantastic production and animation. The animation is flawless and every movements in the animation were really convincing real. Each fur, each water droplets, each facial expression was very life like.

The storyline, as some of you may have already know, is about a rat with impeccable culinary skills and a human with no culinary skills what so ever. Together they became the most well known chef in France.

Rat rat on the silver screen.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and so did rat rat. Of course he watched it with me. Excited little bugger when he found out we were going to watch it.

I wonder who is rat rat's figment of imagination is.

Its a definite must watch movie. Go get tickets when its out next week yall.

Don't forget to be punctual to catch Pixar's short movie before the movie starts.

Ocean's Thirteen

Ocean's Thirteen.

I heart Brat Pitt! He's so hot in this movie and I practically couldn't keep my excitement to myself whenever he comes out on the screen. He's just so hot. *drool Poor Marvin (fagstag) had to endure the drama of me getting all giggly and grabbing his arms in excitement. I must get a I Heart Brat Pitt shirt in pink. Hehehe.

I thought the movie was excellent. The storyline was great, the actors are HAWT and the hotel scenes were breath-taking. I would love to stay in that hotel for just one night and see it for myself. It looked gorgeous. The movie was a great continuation of the previous Ocean's with really good character developments and original humours throughout the movie.

I really love the part where Oprah kinda turned up in the movie. George Cloonney and Brat Pitt were standing in front of the television while she was giving away a home, fully furnished to a family in need. George and Brat sniffled and Brat just looked so adorable. Like an adorable, helpless little puppy that you can't resist but take it into your arms.

Ah Brat Pitt...

I love all the outfit Brat was wearing in the movie. He looked particularly HAWT in olive green shirt made of satin. Oh just so hot. The amazing part was, he never took of his shirt in the movie and still he looked super HAWT. Even la faghag was drooling over him when she watched it.

Oooo Brat Pitt up-close.

So there. I had my shot of testosterone from the men on the silver screen. Not to mention cute twinkies that I saw before the movie in Mid Valley. There was this twink in Starbucks and I'm very sure he's gay. He was wearing a purple v-neck long sleeves and was carrying a Topman and Philosophy shopping bag. He had this lovely innocent smile. So tempted to go in there and line up behind him just to get a closer look. Mid Valley was literally sprawling with twinkie fags. Love Mid Valley for that.

Go watch the movie. I highly recommend it. If you don't believe me, IMDB gave a 7.4/10 for it, fairly good score.

The synopsis:

The last time we saw Danny Ocean's crew, they were paying back ruthless casino mogul Terry Benedict after stealing millions from him. However, it's been a while since they've come back together, which is all about to change. When one of their own, Reuben Tishkoff builds a hotel with known casino owner Willy Banks, the last thing he ever wanted was to get cut out of the deal personally by the loathsome Banks. Banks' attitude even goes so far as to finding the amusement in Tishkoff's misfortune when the double crossing lands Reuben in the hospital because of a heart attack.

However, Danny and his crew won't stand for Banks and what he's done to a friend. Uniting with their old enemy Benedict, who himself has a vendetta against Banks, the crew is out to pull off a major plan. One that will unfold on the night Banks' newest hot spot opens up, when the crew is out to bankrupt one of the city's most despised businessmen. But they're not in this for the money, but for the revenge.

She's Got Crabs...

Normally, the title would indicate something bad. Something no one, straight or gay, would want to contract after a hot saucy night of steamy action with moans that can rival a thousand cat mating right in front of you. Yes crabs... Bad news crabs...

But that's not the crab that I am referring. I'm referring to the crabs that out of the blue popped up in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Kinda random I think. Overall I enjoyed the movie tremendously with comical remarks from Sam during the movie and I can just hear Dr. Paul's and Sam's eyes screaming whenever Beckett or Norrington pops up on screen.

All thanks to Nuffnang for giving out free tickets~~~ I'm not going to put any spoiler about the movie so go watch it yall. Its great entertainment. Off to the end of the earth to save Captain Jack Sparrow~~~

Movie ticket and my bookmark.

I'm amazed at the speed that Dr. Paul walks that I think I can hear and feel the sonic booms that he creates every time he exceeds the speed of sound. Not to forget, he's got the maneuverability of a bat when navigating through a small corridor dense packed with people. That's how he got us good seats since the screening was free seating. Dr. Paul's kiasu mode is to be revered and feared. Like a laser guided missile aimed to its intended target. Heheh. Now you see then kabooom. Maybe he's got crabs, that's why he walks that fast :P

The Spice Must Flow

Guest what finished downloaded today, 2.03 GB worth of download. Besides my porn titled Man Art: Take It Like A Man and Japan Pictures Mega Panic. Its Frank Herbert's Dune, not the original but the miniseries. A movie trilogy really but one of the best Sci-Fi slash book adaptation in my opinion. I dare say its better than Star Wars.

I remember reading the book but I'm was after I watched the movie, I think. Oh how can I not remember. I've been hunting for a good copy of Dune. Kinokuniya has them but I don't like the copy. The paper sucks and it feels so... I just don't like the feeling of it. Hence, disturbing my reading mood.

I'm too buggered to write the synopsis so here's what the people in IMDB wrote:

It is a distant galaxy in the far future. Arrakis is a desert planet and is the only source of Melange, a vital drug used by the Guild Navigators for space travel from star system to star system. The corrupt Emperor Padishah Shaddam IV sends the Atreides family to Arrakis to take charge of the mining operations of Melange, once controlled by the Atreide's rival family, The Harkonnens. Duke Leto Atreide's son Paul becomes fascinated by the native Freman's culture and learns he has a special powers and he can see images of the future.

But the Emperor is in league with the evil Baron Vladimir Harkonnen and the Baron and his loyal army attacks, taking control of the mining operation on Arrakis and Duke Leto is assassinated. Paul and his mother Lady Jessica flee in the desert, where they are befriend by the Fremen. Adopting his Fremen name "Maud'Dib", Paul vows vengeance on Baron Harkonnen and the Emperor and he unites the Fremen and forms a army of warriors and leads into battle, as he sets out to defeat the Harkonnen family and put a stop to the Melange mining operation, as Paul sets out to fulfill his destiny, as he becomes the prophesied all-powerful Kwisatz Haderach.

The worm in the movie, which makes the
Melange looks like a dried version of a penis with shells... Disturbing I know. :P Me and my skanky mind. Heheheh.

Now that the story is out of the way, the villian Feyd-Rautha is so cute~~~ Most of the time in the movie, he's almost topless. Might as well be topless. So cute. Yummy body and such a cute twink. He's got this mischievous look with his shaved head. So cute, just so cute.

I'm going back to watching Dune. I hope Feyd comes on screen soon.

But the surprise don't just stop there, she said I can have two tickets and I'll just have to email the name for the second person. How awesome is that? Though the second ticket has been taken by McDave.
