Why Study?

I am suppose to be studying for my exams which are in a week time but guess what I'm doing instead. I'm catching up on my storybooks. Kekekek. Hardly the recommended textbook for my course but sure hell, it is way more interesting and engaging than those boring dry academic text...

Anyhow, I've been busying myself with Harry Potter 7. Not the latest book I know but I've only just gotten around to reading it. I had several books lined up before this you see. His Dark Materials Trilogy and The Velvet Rage (highly recommended read for every queer).

Its so lovely to spend the whole day reading storybooks until three or four in the morning. Though there's one annoying thing about me, I wake up at about 945 in the morning everyday regardless what time I slept... So semi bloodshot eyes are a common thing these days. Oh how un-fabulous.

I'm actually a little sad that I've finished Harry Potter 7. No more adventures of Harry Potter~~~ No more Hogwarts~~~ Oh so sad. I must say, I really love the last book. It was well written, absorbing and such a page turner. As much as I would love to finish the book in mere hours, I can't. It seems that my eyes can stand staring into a monitor longer than staring into books. But I am happy that I finally finished it.

This is my next reading assignment.

Whatever happened to this book?!

Scary looking book don't you think? La Faghag passed it to me and my first thought was, "Did this book went through a Golden Shower Orgy?!" (why was I not invited?!). So long as I have a book to read.

Amazingly, I have no idea what this book is about neither have I watched the movie. Yey a mystery book.

What are you reading today?

You know you love me.
XOXO

First published in the United States in 1951, the novel has been a frequently challenged book in its home country for its liberal use of profanity and portrayal of sexuality and teenage angst.

Around 250,000 copies are sold each year, with total sales of more than 65 million.[6]

The novel was chosen by Time magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005.[7]

The novel's protagonist, Holden Caulfield, has become an icon for teenage rebellion and defiance. Written in the first person, The Catcher in the Rye follows Holden's experiences in New York City in the days following his expulsion from Pencey Prep, a college preparatory school.

In 1960, a teacher was fired, and later reinstated, for assigning the novel in class. Between 1961 and 1982, The Catcher in the Rye was the most censored book in high schools and libraries in the United States. In 1981, it was both the most censored book and the 2nd most taught book in public schools in the United States. According to the American Library Association, The Catcher in the Rye was the 13th most frequently challenged book from 1990–2000. It was one of the 10 most challenged books in 2005, and came off the list in 2006.

The challenges generally begin with vulgar language, citing the novel's use of words like "fuck" and "goddamn".

In the decade following its publication, there were over 70 essays on the novel printed in American and British magazines.

I'm sure you can't wait to read the book after reading this review about this book. Hope it helps.

Oh yeah, almost forgotten to tell you what I'm reading now. I'm reading a British classic 'Great Expectations' by Charles Dickens. The dialogue is humourous.

I am also analyzing 'Sense and Sensibility' with my reading group. The analysis is based on every single chapter. Have you read it?

Do you read any classic literature? What you have read?

qihua, you read Jane Austen too? Wow! You know? I have her complete novels, all 6. I am going to read Pride and Prejudice once I finished the Great Expectations. Have you watched the 2008 latest adaptation of S&S from BBC? It's nice. It's a tv mini series which is way better than the movie. By the way, have you read all Austen's books?

I'm reading Miss Chopsticks by Xinran - a pretty good look at China in the modern day. Surprising as it is, there are lots of people out there who still don't know about the existence of cell phones, computers, movies, etc. etc - so when these three sisters head over to Nanjing to start work in the big city, it's a whole cultural shock for them with all these new things to absorb, like fashion, manners, and of all - the acceptance of women in society with their place among men as equals. :)

You should check it out someday.

I'm gonna stop reading Golden Compass. I think the movie ruined it for me.

I think that procrastination is an important part of every student's life.

Although you're not studying, at least you're getting a well-rounded education in life by reading these more important books.

I don't think anyone actually enjoys reading textbooks.

Why study indeed. Be like moi. Study less and luck it more. ;)

William, you should discard the image you see in the movie. Just read the book and pretend you have never watched the movie. I read half the book and went to watch the movie. I know I shouldn't have but I regretted. And it sort of kills the story from the book. So, I brainwash myself not to think of the movie and continue reading as though I have never seen the movie. Don't stop reading because it's a very nice book and the sequel (The Subtle Knife) is even more gan-cheong! Trust me! :)
