In the United States, gay men are prohibited from donating blood even though there is a shortage of blood.
The American Red Cross and the Food and Drug Administration are concerned about the transmission of diseases that arise from sexual activity between two men.
However, sexually active heterosexual people are not banned from giving blood.
It doesn't seem right, does it?

Why didn't you take photos to rival ours QR?!
It's a standard procedure since yonks ago to prohibit gay men from donating blood, sometime when HIV and AIDs were going rampant and no one were practising safe sex, see. There was some correlation about unsafe gay sex and HIV (rusty memory at work). It wasn't really discrimination but a protective measure.
Think there might be a looking into review of this prohibition as there's always a need for blood donation.
